I’m a productivity nerd who’s been coaching effective altruists since 2017.
My interests include how humans excel, self-experiments, effective altruism, and generally tinkering with how to live the good life. I write about these on my blog.
Before starting coaching, I graduated cum laude from studying psychology at Harvard University, then researched self-control with 3000+ participants under the “grit lady” Angela Duckworth at the University of Pennsylvania. I coordinated research studies with three schools, plus a whole lot of MTurk participants.
Outside of my formal career, I’ve developed my skill as a painter. I designed and published several murder mystery parties. And I’ve found a home in the effective altruism community. I built two group houses with my partner, Rohin Shah, and enjoy hosting regular events for the London community.
But if you’re reading this, you probably want to hear more about the work I’ve done on productivity. After leaving the Duckworth Lab, I wanted to do more direct work.
So I combined my knowledge of psychology and intensive peer counseling training in Person Centered Therapy to start coaching effective altruists. Over 2000 coaching sessions later, I’ve developed my own approaches to tackling my clients’ worst bottlenecks.
In my last impact evaluation, clients averaged an extra twenty-five productive hours per month due to coaching.
But my coaching is just as much a result of my own journey. I’ve been in the place of hopelessly thinking I’m not doing enough, or that what I’m doing isn’t important enough in the face of so many big problems.
And I’ve spent years building systems and dealing with perfectionism, chronic health issues, and the challenges of self-directed work. Learning when the little voice in my head means I need to prioritize ruthlessly for what really matters, and when that little voice is just a distorted thought I need to challenge. Running many, many experiments on my own productivity.
That’s a journey I’m still on. It’s a perpetual journey to balance mental health and self-care with optimizing productivity so I can be impactful in a sustainable, healthy way. And more than anything, I think this journey prepares me to help other effective altruists.
If you’re ready to do the work to sustainably maximize your impact, I am here to support you.
